Lay out boards that work in the field

We are looking for a PCB layout engineer for whom impedance is part of the job, not a checkbox in the settings. Boards for an X-band UAV radio link — from the layer stack to the bench and the flight.

01 · Open role

PCB Layout / Hardware Engineer

Who are we looking for?

Someone who lays out boards well: a clean layer stack, calculated impedance, and routing that does not need redoing after the first measurement.

The role in short

You own board layout from the layer stack and routing rules to the manufacturing files — working closely with the RF engineers and the firmware developers who will be the first to power these boards on the bench.

  • Kyiv
  • Remote or hybrid — to be discussed
  • KiCad
  • RF and high-speed boards

02 · What you will work on

The boards a radio link is made of

What exactly will you lay out?

Everything in UVS Link is our own design: boards, firmware, the frequency converter, the antennas. Your boards are the link without which the rest does not fly.

  • Airborne modules

The video path and the X-band converter on one compact board: camera, memory and high-speed lines right next to RF.

  • X-band RF path

Converters and amplifiers: coplanar lines, transitions, shielding, power decoupling.

  • Ground units

The receiving side with USB and Ethernet outputs — and the same signal-integrity demands.

  • From bench to flight

Your board is measured in our lab, then it flies. Feedback is fast and specific.

03 · What you need

Requirements

What have you already worked with?

  1. 01 3+ years of multilayer board layout (4–8 layers)
  2. 02 High-quality board layout: clean topology, a well-planned layer stack, return paths and grounding
  3. 03 Controlled impedance: calculation, layer stack and agreeing it with the fab
  4. 04 Grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) and microstrip
  5. 05 Routing memory chips (DDR): length matching, topology, VTT and reference voltages
  6. 06 High-speed interfaces such as SDIO, USB and MIPI CSI — differential pairs, length matching, layer transitions
  7. 07 RF-aware layout for 2.4/5 GHz and X-band
  8. 08 Power and thermal: DC-DC, decoupling, PDN, heat sinking for high-power GaN amplifiers
  9. 09 Manufacturing outputs: Gerber/ODB++, BOM, assembly files, DFM/DFA and working with the fab
  10. 10 Experience with KiCad (or Altium and a willingness to move to KiCad)
  11. 11 Fluent reading of English datasheets and reference designs
  12. 12 Willingness to pass a security vetting, including a polygraph test

Nice to have

  • Experience with line and field simulation
  • Preparing boards for series production and assembly
  • Measuring on a VNA or a spectrum analyser
  • BGA fanout, HDI and microvias
  • Board-level EMC and ESD protection
  • Mechanical integration: enclosures, connectors, STEP models
  • Git for board projects

Two lines you will be calculating every day

Cross-sections, schematic, not to scale.

04 · What we offer

Work you can see in the air

Why join us?

  • Interesting RF hardware

X-band, an encrypted video link, our own converters, amplifiers and antennas — not another clone of an off-the-shelf module.

  • An experienced team

RF, microwave, firmware and software — people to ask, and people to argue about the layer stack with.

  • Real field use

Your boards go to the field, and their requirements come from operators, not from a slide deck.

  • Our own lab

RF instruments on the bench: measure your own layout instead of waiting for someone else to.

  • Deferment from mobilisation

We arrange mobilisation deferment for our employees.

05 · How to apply

Three steps to a technical conversation

How do I apply?

  1. 01

    Write through the form

A few sentences about yourself and your layout experience. Topic — “Careers”.

  2. 02

    Show your work

A link to a portfolio or layout examples — only what you are free to share, nothing under NDA.

  3. 03

    A technical conversation

We reply to the contact you leave in the form and set up a conversation with engineers on the team.

Do you lay out boards that have to work from the first revision?

Write to us — let’s talk boards, impedance and X-band.
